內容簡介: This authoritative collection contains writings by some thirty of the most significant Chinese writers of the period between 1919 and 1949. The three decades from which these pieces are drawn encompass most of the Republican period, a tumultuous era in Chinese history in which modernization and republicanism coexisted with classical culture. Thematically, these xiaopin wen, or modern Chinese essays, differ significantly from the more social and political fiction of the May Fourth movement. Their scope varies, from ruminations on broader existential issues to more personal contemplations on everyday life, often delving into issues of morality and interpersonal relations. Although described as 'essays,' they are not restrained by the formal, expository connotations of this English term; rather, their tone is more intimate, reflective, and at times witty or tinged with melancholy.
作者簡介TAM KING-FAI博客來網路書店earned his BA in English and MPhil in Comparative Literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and MA and PhD in East Asian Studies from Princeton University. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese Culture of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. 諾獎得主席勒：我一直看空股市 修正尚未結束

美股上週五暴跌530點讓全球股市投資人哀鴻遍野，雖然多數法人認為，在全球步向衰退之際，美股仍然最值得投資。但諾貝爾經濟學獎得主席勒表示，跌勢還沒結束。
曾經在今年初警告投資人要準備過「苦日子」的席勒，在上週五美股出現崩盤是重挫後接受CNBC節目訪問時說：「未來可能會有更大、更多的跌幅出現。我基本上會一直看空，因為市場價值被高估了。」
他說：「當平常未關注市場的人進場後，恐慌情緒會像流行病一樣擴散。」
人民幣上周突然貶值加劇了投資者對中國經濟疲軟將削弱能源和原材料需求的憂慮。顯然有愈來愈多的投資者擔心，中國和其他發展中國家的問題將影響到美國和歐洲，拖累美國和歐洲經濟增速放緩，看空前景的心理蔓延，反應自亞洲市場、歐洲股市，最終使美股在上周出現近千點的跌勢，市場認為，如果跌勢短期難以遏止，美國聯邦儲備委員會計畫在今年晚些時候進行2006年以來首次加息的計劃面臨難以抉擇的困境。
全球市場上周殺聲震天，美股道瓊指數狂瀉530點，新興市場國家貨幣也大幅貶值，國際油價更跌至40美元，投資專家伊爾艾朗（Mohamed El-Erian）說，目前情況不同於先前市場曾經發生過的股市暴跌情況；例如2008年金融危機席捲全球，以及2013年的「減碼量化寬鬆（QE）恐慌」（taper tantrum），還有歐元區疑慮引發的連串危機與動盪。
他指出，這次全球市場崩跌非關已開發國家，主要反映投資人擔心新興市場成長放慢，特別是中國，而巴西、俄羅斯和土耳其的成長數據也很不妙，加上歐洲與日本經濟積弱不振。
其次，專家分析，中國強烈干預匯市與股市的作為，另投資者對該國市場產生重大疑慮，更懷疑中國經濟是否潛藏尚未呈現的風險。
因此當市場有「恐慌指數」之稱的VIX指數飆高時，被高估的股票，特別是科技股，往往出現更嚴重的賣壓，也損及低接意願，投資人寧先作壁上觀。例如最受投資人看好的蘋果公司股價上周重跌達8.5%，距其最高點的股價134.5元已修正逾20%，就是最顯著的例子。
